Boston Arts Academy

Boston Arts Academy students sculpt, sing, film, perform, and even find time to study the sciences.BAA opened in 1997 and is a pilot high school within the Boston Public Schools system. Headmaster Linda Nathan and a small group of talented teachers and artists run the school. BAA's student body of approximately 400 reflects the diversity of Boston itself. Students take classes in theater, dance, music (vocal or instrumental), and visual art, as well as core curriculum classes in math, languages, humanities, integrated sciences, and writing. They also have the opportunity to learn from instructors from the ProArts Consortium—an association of six internationally known institutions of higher learning specializing in the visual arts, performing arts, and architecture—as well as visiting professional artists from the best arts organizations in the country. The school accepts students who exhibit the following qualities: potential and ability in the arts; the commitment and self-discipline to advance in both artistic and academic studies; and the ability to contribute to building a successful, supportive, and inclusive school community.
