Artists for Humanity

Founded in 1992, Artists for Humanity engages Boston teens in arts-based entrepreneurship. The organization expects its 60 teen artists to work a minimum of six hours a week and pays them an hourly wage to produce paintings, murals, theatrical sets, photographs, silk-screened T-shirts, and graphic designs that are sold to individual and corporate clients. The young artists begin their time at Artists for Humanity with a 90-hour apprenticeship. Encouraged to express themselves through the arts, youth become empowered as they exert control over their micro-enterprises and over their lives. Artists for Humanity is recognized nationally as a leader in youth-led arts entrepreneurship and has been honored with a Coming Up Taller Award from the President's Committee on Arts and Humanities.
