Chief Training Officer Miki Jacevic gives an overview of international transitional justice mechanisms. On Nov. 22, The Institute for Inclusive Security’s Miki Jacevic, chief training officer, and Angelic Young, manager of policy initiatives, conducted a training in New York at the UN’s Institute for Training and Research during a two-day workshop titled “Negotiating International Peace and Security: Strengthening the Rule of Law.” Seventeen delegates from permanent UN missions in more than a dozen conflict-affected countries attended. The training’s main goal was to enhance delegates’ ability to incorporate a rule-of-law perspective into their approach towards negotiations.

Participants role play during a negotiations simulation.First, The Institute helped moderate a panel on addressing women and children’s needs in rule-of-law initiatives, particularly focusing on how to include marginalized populations’ perspectives in post-conflict legal procedures and gender mainstream such processes.

Inclusive Security also facilitated a role-play designed to teach participants how to better integrate women into transitional justice mechanisms, as well as negotiation skills that can be applied to their work at the UN.
