Amplifying the Voices of Afghan Women Leaders through Media (June 2011)

The Daily Beast interviewed delegates Samira Hamidi and Farkhunda Zahra Naderi and the Washington Times also interviewed Ms. Hamidi  and Ms. Zahra Naderi as well as Hasina Safi. Senator Barbara Boxer and Congresswoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers both wrote about the women on their websites and Samira Hamidi (left) of Afghanistan is interviewed about Afghan women's priorities on Voice of America television.McMorris Rodgers issued a press release that announced the creation of the Afghan Women’s Task Force, which the Spokane Examiner picked up. PBS NewsHour’s Margaret Warner interviewed Rangina Hamidi, Quhramaana Kakar, and Wazhma Frogh at The Institute for Inclusive Security office; the segment aired on June 20. Several of the women also appeared on VOA Afghanistan, both on their TV and radio programs. In addition to VOA, Afghan delegate Samira Hamidi was interviewed on NPR’s Tell Me More on June 23 about what the future of Afghanistan means for women. The Foreign Policy website carried an article about the recommendations on June 22.
