Evelyn Thornton is the chief executive officer of The Institute for Inclusive Security. She oversees vision, strategy, and management, including development, general operations and communications. She also leads the Institute’s work in the Middle East and coordinates the Women Waging Peace Network. Since joining the Institute in 2005, Ms. Thornton has played a range of roles, most recently as deputy director for partnerships and development, where she oversaw the formation of numerous strategic partnerships with other organizations in the field, led trainings with women leaders from Darfur to Nepal, and advocated extensively to policymakers to advance the Institute’s mission.
Previously, Ms. Thornton worked for the Foundation for Universal Responsibility for His Holiness The Dalai Lama in New Delhi, India, focusing on the Women in Security Conflict Management and Peace initiative. Ms. Thornton received her MA in conflict resolution at Georgetown University and her BA in international studies from Virginia Tech.
