Reforming the Security Sector in Europe - February 2010

The
Geneva Center for the Democratic Control of the Armed Forces organized a workshop in February 2010 to discuss gender and security sector reform with members of the
Partnership for Peace Consortium of Defense Academies and Security Studies Institutes (PfP). Many of the PfP’s members represent ministries, training institutions, and academies that provide training and research to militaries, police, and parliaments in NATO countries. Inclusive Security traveled to Geneva to participate in the workshop.
About 40 people attended the two-day workshop, including representatives of NATO headquarters, training academies, parliamentary assemblies, members of the armed forces from several NATO countries, members of the Swiss and other governments, professors at the Naval Post-Graduate Institute in Monterey, California; and an adviser in the Office of the US Secretary of Defense Robert Gates.
Inclusive Security's Lead Advocacy Coordinator Jacqueline O’Neill spoke about best practices for delivering training to police, military, and civil society on women's engagement in the security sector, and also moderated a panel, "NATO’s Approach to Integrating UN Security Council Resolutions 1325, 1820, 1888, and 1889 in Peacekeeping Operations."
