The Theater Offensive
The Theater Offensive's mission is to form and present the diverse realities of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender lives in art so bold it breaks through personal isolation and political orthodoxy to help build a more honest progressive community. True Colors: Out Youth Theater, a community program of The Theater Offensive, leverages the power of theater to eradicate isolation and fear caused by bigotry and discrimination, creating a safe haven where LGBT youth are supported and challenged to engage fully in their own personal, social, and artistic development. Each season, True Colors: Out Youth Theater brings together a diverse group of LGBT youth and their straight allies, ages 14-22, who work with a team of theater artists to write, stage, and perform an original play that captures the complexities of their lives, their experiences of oppression and liberation, and their hopes for the future. As these at-risk youth work tell their stories to adults and peers, they grow to see themselves as artists and community leaders with a clear sense of self and self-worth.
