Refugees International (RI)
Refugees International (RI) generates lifesaving humanitarian assistance and protection for displaced people around the world and works to end the conditions that create displacement. The vast majority of refugees and the displaced around the world are women and girls; their participation in the delivery of humanitarian services, resettlement following peace agreements, and long-term reconstruction is critical to sustainable peace. The Initiative’s partnership with RI supports the organization’s important efforts to document the ways women refugees and internally displaced persons are excluded from peacemaking processes, as well as to advocate for women’s inclusion. Notably, in July 2006, the Initiative’s staff and RI President Ken Bacon, led an important mission to Darfur, Sudan where we assessed the impact of the Darfur Peace Agreement on the region, with a focus on women’s roles in ending the conflict. Additionally, we jointly advocate for women’s participation in conflict resolution in Sudan, Liberia, and other conflict areas.
