Organization of American States (OAS)

Organization of American States (OAS) brings together the nations of the Western Hemisphere to strengthen cooperation on democratic values, defend common interests, and debate the major issues facing the region and the world. As the region’s principal multilateral forum, OAS promotes human rights and democracy and confronts cross cutting issues such as poverty, terrorism, illegal drugs, and corruption.

Through the Initiative’s partnership with the OAS, we supported two successful regional courses on gender, conflict, and peace building for more than 80 government officials and civil society leaders from the Andean region (October 2005) and Central American region (September 2006). Participants formed thriving networks and replicated the courses in Colombia and Peru. The Initiative also collaborates with the OAS on projects related to Colombia and hemispheric security. We will co-publish a training manual on gender, peace, and conflict in Spanish in the coming months.
