Biography

Rose Wabwire Omusolo Munyira has been representing the district of Busia in Uganda’s parliament since 2001. She is currently the vice chair of the parliamentary Sessional Committee on Tourism, Trade and Industry. She has also served parliament on the Committees of Social Services and the Accountability Committee of Commissions, State Enterprises and Authorities. She has served as an executive committee member of the Uganda Women’s Parliamentary Association (UWOPA) since 2001. She is a member of AMANI, the parliamentary peace forum of the Great Lakes region; the parliamentary forum on population and food security; and the parliamentary forum for children. From 1998 to 2002, Ms. Munyira was the chairperson of her district’s Women Council and a member of the District Council. Prior to her involvement in parliament, Ms. Munyira taught English, history, and political education for 15 years. Her career in leadership began with her roles as school prefect in secondary school; minister for campus affairs at Nagongera National Teachers’ College; and acting deputy headmistress of the Tororo Girls’ School. Ms. Munyira received a diploma in education and Bachelor of Education from Makerere University, a diploma in business studies from Uganda College of Business Studies-Tororo, and a postgraduate diploma in management from the Uganda Management Institute.
