Biography

Betty Ocan Aol represents the Gulu district in Uganda’s parliament. She is currently the general secretary of the Uganda Women Parliamentary Association. She is also the shadow minister of disaster rehabilitation and resettlement, and envoy for the Forum for Democratic Change. Ms. Aol is also a member of the AMANI forum and the Uganda Parliamentary Forum for Children. She has served on many boards of governance of schools and NGOs; she is still a member of several of those boards.
Previously, Ms. Aol served as the secretary for health, environment, and children’s affairs for the Gulu district’s local council. She represents the Uganda Women Parliamentary Association in conflict resolution and peace-building activities, and she is a member of the Coalition for Peace in northern Uganda. Ms. Aol holds a degree from Gulu University in development studies, and in 1980, she earned a diploma in education from Makerere University.
