Biography

Alicia Silva, Adviser, Office of Vice President Francisco Santos, Government of Colombia For six years, Alicia Eugenia Silva Nigrinis was the deputy mayor of the federal district of Bogotá. While Ms. Silva held this position, she headed the city of Bogotá’s police force. During her tenure, homicide rates dropped dramatically and Bogotá became an example to the rest of Colombia. During this time, she also served as executive director of the Foundation for Colombia’s Future. Ms. Silva is currently an adviser to the Colombian vice president. For the past 20 years, she has been the director of the archaeological museum sponsored by the Cultural Promotion Fund in Bogotá, the Casa del Marqués de San Jorge. Ms. Silva holds degrees in economics from Stanford University and psychology from Boston University. She speaks Spanish and English, and has published several articles and reports. (1.2007)
