ART
Works
for Kids
Arts can be life-changing for kids. ART
Works
for Kids strives to increase the private and public funding of arts organizations that transform kids' lives in Eastern Massachusetts.
We promote the arts in classrooms, after-school programs, and the larger community to encourage young people to stay on track.
Demand Abolition
Although slavery is illegal in every country in the world, it exists in every nation and in our own backyards. Slavery is more prevalent today than at any point in history, with estimates as high as 27 million slaves worldwide—greater than the total population stolen from Africa during four centuries of the transatlantic slave trade. While the nature of modern-day slavery ranges from forced labor to child soldiers, the US Department of State estimates that roughly 80 percent of the 600,000 to 800,000 people moved across state borders each year (an estimated 17,500 are brought into the United States) are bought and sold for sex, most of them women and children. However, it is not only foreign nationals that are enslaved on US soil. Thousands of US citizens are tricked, lured, and coerced into the sex industry, with an estimated 300,000 juveniles vulnerable to commercial sexual exploitation every year. The majority of public and private resources dedicated to sex trafficking in the past decade have been crisis-oriented, geared toward rescuing and rehabilitating victims and, to some extent, prosecuting the perpetrators. While it is critical to continue those efforts, we focus on the root cause of the problem: demand. Individuals who assume the right to purchase another human being fuel the market for sex that traffickers and pimps supply with victims. Until the demand for commercial sex is eliminated, the sexual enslavement of children, women, and sometimes men will continue, endangering victims, degrading perpetrators, and harming our society.
Increasing Philanthropy
Over the next 50 years, trillions of dollars will be inherited by the next generation of America's wealthiest families. Increasing Philanthropy encourages current and future donors to unleash their philanthropic potential. Our current focus is on
Women Moving Millions
, a ground-breaking initiative to raise $150 million to advance the lives of women and girls worldwide.
The Institute For Inclusive Security
The Institute for Inclusive Security uses research, training, and advocacy to promote the inclusion of all stakeholders, particularly women, in peace processes. We work with a global network of well over 1000 women leaders from more than 40 conflict regions. Our research gives policymakers new strategies to drive inclusion by examining tangible contributions of women peace builders. Our training provides leaders the specialized skills and knowledge to direct local, national, and international peace-building. Our advocacy to high-level policymakers promotes change that makes peace processes more broad-based, and thus sustainable.
Political Parity
Political Parity is a nonpartisan initiative to increase the number of women in high-level political offices, from the state house to the White House. This program is built on a dream of a country with a critical mass of women in highest political office who collectively add a broader perspective and wield a collaborative approach to shape a stronger and more just society. We are working with a diverse group of individuals, organizations, and academic institutions to develop and share best practices for achieving political parity, to share information and resources among those working to elect women, and to create a sense of inspiration and urgency for achieving our goal.
Prime Movers: Cultivating Social Capital
Prime Movers is a national program supporting leaders who engage masses of people to create a more just society. The Fund offers its resources, including financial support, policy contacts, and advocacy expertise, to strengthen these leaders and to encourage the growth of pivotal social movements.
