Rwanda
In 2008, Inclusive Security published a series of papers and policy briefs elaborating on women's achievements in Rwanda. Following the 1994 civil war and genocide, Rwandan women made extraordinary efforts to rebuild their country. They made unprecedented political gains even while facing historic disadvantages and ongoing challenges. From 2005 to 2007, Inclusive Security operated a project in Kigali. The goals of the project:
- Research and document the Rwandan experience of women's leadership.
- Produce a model of sustainable, replicable leadership training.
- Strengthen the capacity of elected and appointed women leaders at the national level through a comprehensive program of skills training.
- Support the development of the next generation of women leaders by providing opportunities to young, local, or grassroots women leaders that prepare them for national-level leadership.
- Connect Rwandan women with The Women Waging Peace Network so that women in other war-affected countries can learn from their experiences and achievements.
