Express Yourself!
Express Yourself! empowers young people through the creative world of music, dance, and visual arts, changing their lives. Express Yourself! celebrates cultural diversity and collaboration by bringing together isolated youth from 17 Department of Mental Health (DMH) residential and inpatient facilities. Since 1989, over 1,400 youth in newly created communities have collaborated with Stan Strickland and Express Yourself! artists along with celebrities such as the casts of Blue Man Group and STOMP, Boston Pops Conductor Keith Lockhart, and Broadway dancers on a culminating performance at the Wang Center for the Performing Arts in Boston. Youth and artists become inspired during a full-year program of creating set designs, visual art, and performance pieces for their final event, which is followed by an exhibition.
