Conservatory Lab Charter School
Now in its 8
th year as an innovative public charter school, the Conservatory Lab Charter School (CLCS) serves children from throughout Boston in grades K–5. CLCS is creating a new educational model,
Learning Through Music, by infusing music into courses across the curriculum
. The school’s mission is to use this approach to reach children from all backgrounds and help them achieve academic, creative, and social success.
The CLCS Learning Through Music curriculum includes interdisciplinary, team-taught lessons that combine music with academic subjects; weekly violin lessons for children in grades 1–5; daily music instruction; and regular performance opportunities. Music is a centerpiece of the curriculum, both as a process for learning as well as an entry point for understanding concepts in reading, math, science, and social studies. By exposing children to this curriculum at a young age, CLCS provides students with skills that will help them succeed throughout their lives.
