Biography

Ida Kuklina, a member of the Council on Civil Society Institutions Development and Human Rights of the President of Russian Federation, holds a doctorate in political science and is a leading researcher at the Institute of World Economics and International Relations of Russia’s Academy of Sciences. She also serves as secretary and head of the Analytical and Information Commission of the Union of the Committees of Soldiers’ Mothers of Russia, a non-governmental organization created in 1989 to protect the human rights of soldiers, draftees, and their parents. Dr. Kuklina lobbies the State Duma for the democratization of Russia’s armed forces and the establishment of professional armed forces. Dr Kuklina stands for the abolishment of involuntary conscription to military service, the establishment of professional armed forces and protection of military human resources. (04.2009)
