Young Audiences of Massachusetts Bring Back the Music provides instruction in violin, flute, clarinet, and trumpet to approximately 120 fourth- and fifth-grade students at the Beethoven and Ohrenberger elementary schools in West Roxbury, MA. The program was developed three years ago by Young Audiences of Massachusetts, a nonprofit, statewide arts-in-education organization, and is now entering its fourth year. The majority of students at the two schools are from low-income families in the West Roxbury, Mattapan, and Dorchester communities of Boston. Boston Public Schools and the VH-1 Save the Music foundation provide the instruments, which parents rent for $30 per school year. This program serves to replace some of the music instruction that was eliminated from the Boston Public Schools in 1992.Visit the Young Audiences of Massachusetts Web site
