Urban Improv
Urban Improv, founded in 1992, uses improvisational acting techniques to engage young people in dialogue about social and health issues such as peer pressure, violence prevention, racism, homophobia, smoking, and substance abuse. A nine-week program brings elementary- and middle-school students to weekly sessions of song and interactive performances, followed by discussion. One-time workshops for high-school students challenge them to place themselves in roles dramatized by the Urban Improv acting troupe. Using imagination and creativity, Urban Improv encourages young people to find innovative solutions to problems they face daily.
